Martin Menem, ex-president’s nephew Carlos Menem, broke into the political scene of the province of La Rioja with the aspiration of becoming the next governor. The La Libertad Avanza candidate assured this Thursday, April 6, that if he only voted for the sub-30 electorate, Javier Miley “I would win in the first round”.
In an interview with the agency THAT, Martin Menem revealed what qualities of the economist brought him closer to the liberal movement, and maintained that this year Milei will reach the ballot and will be President of the Nation.

The current Riojan provincial deputy combined balanced doses of Criticism of the Frente de Todos y Juntos por el Cambiowhom he held responsible for the “failure” of the political system, and stressed that Milei as an “outsider” is a “response” to the growing malaise that society is experiencing due to the lack of solutions to its problems.
Indeed, in mid-March, Martín Menem severely criticized the provincial governor, Ricardo Quintela, after learning of the outburst directed at a teacher who made a claim for salary improvements and budget increases.
Faced with this, the libertarian legislator released a video on his networks to show solidarity with the claim of the workers in the sector.
Regarding his origin, the nephew of the former president maintained that his activity was always focused on the private sphere.
“I’ve always been in contact with all kinds of economists. I’m interested in open economies that are the fairest, those that include the most people, far from command economies. I met Javier a long time ago and I made a nice friendship. I introduced Carlos in person in 2019, when he was 89 years old. It was going to be half an hour, but we went at 7 in the afternoon and it was half past 10 at night and Menem told us to stay. They laughed their heads off,” declared the gubernatorial candidate in the context of the interview given to THAT.
Regarding the ideological coincidences between Milei and Carlos MenemMartín Menem warned that the libertarian “admires the opening policy of the 90s and always ratifies and defends it. Obviously not in all its aspects but in many issues he looked at it with great sympathy and above all the results of the numbers that are the best that Argentina had in the last 80 years”.

He defined Javier Milei as “a transparent, honest guy who always goes up front and tells the truth even if he doesn’t like it. He is different from the rest of the politicians, he has credibilityHe does not have a past in politics with which they can run like the rest. All those who are on the billboard are people who have already been there and failed.”
Martín Menem is aware of the weight that his last name has in the context of the electoral campaign, since, in his view, “Menem was the most important La Riojan in history.”

“Menem is a brand,” warned the candidate for governor
“Menem is a brand. By carrying that last name, you somehow take a step forward because it is quickly related. It is easier to acquire a level of knowledge. Menem was the most important La Rioja in history. After that he materializes in an election is another story. It serves as a presentation but afterwards it is a job to be the best electoral offer “, he graphed.
He also reflected on the possibility of win the fight against justicialism in the province.
“The justicialismo since democracy returned has never lost. Ten out of ten elections: it hit all the shots. Radicalism is the second historical traditional party. However, we have an opportunity because the phenomenon occurs that It is the province that votes the least in Argentina. Three out of ten people do not vote and one out of ten votes blank. Of the 6 that remain, three or a little more have the PJ and the rest the opposition”.
Martín Menem: “There is fever and fatigue in people”
“Our message,” Menem added, “is to all go vote because if we unite we have a chance. Add to this the lousy government led by (Ricardo) Quintela, which is horrible. And the candidate for governor of the centenary party militated in La Cámpora for a long time. They are Together for the Position. In this situation we feel that we have a chance because there is fever and tiredness in people, because they are always the same, and they do not solve the problem. In any case, I am cautious, La Libertad Avanza has barely been in La Rioja for a year and a half. In 2021 we campaigned in 20 days and in the Capital we got 13,000 votes. Now we are going throughout the province and I feel that we are going to improve.”
On the other hand, the candidate for governor assured that his space could absorb a percentage of the electorate that historically supported Menemism: “I am convinced that part of the historical Menemism can accompany us.”
What is Nosis, the platform that generated the last fight between Milei and Cachanosky
Regarding the ideological definition of libertarians, Martín Menem ruled out framing it within “the right” and preferred to refer to a center-right coalition.
“Actually it is center right, it is not right. Both the word center-right or liberalism have been demonized by all the prevailing socialism. The results of the policies of socialism have brought us here. They have multiplied poverty by 2.2, indigence by 2.5, and there are more than 100% of inflation. The “right” is a title. I couldn’t give you a title. What I’m saying is that by going for an open economy people are going to be much better off. It’s common sense. There is empirical evidence that it has worked much better,” said the legislator.
Added to this, qualified the differences between the Frente de Todos and Juntos por el Cambio.
“There were no differences with respect to Kirchnerism, beyond the good intentions they may have had,” Menem told THAT. “They were a real failure. They maintained the socialist scheme encouraged by a sector of the UCR, the Civic Coalition and the movements that support such ideas. The model of freedom is common sense, the nature of the human being. Socialism wants to impose a way on us that the nature of the human being rejects. These models are questionable and what Javier proposes is the only way out.”
Cachanosky charged Milei again: accusations of plagiarism and the possibility of suing her
Menem on the electoral future of the libertarian leader: “If today only the under 30s voted, Milei wins in the first round”
In relation to the criticism directed at Javier Milei for his alliance in Tucumán with a former repressor (Ricardo Bussi), Menem remarked that “it has to do with the Javier’s growth in the polls. They want to see how to grind his figure that doesn’t stop growing.”
In line with the above, he distanced himself from the statements by Alberto Fernándezwho had identified in the figure of Milei a danger to democracy.
“Danger for democracy are these guys who make life worse every day, that our children leave the country, that those who graduate have nowhere to work. Milei, as an outsider in politics, is a response from society to failure that the political sector that governed has been demonstrating,” he illustrated.
Finally, he referred to Milei’s concrete possibilities of reaching the Casa Rosada.
“If today only the under 30s voted, Milei wins in the first round”, Menem maintained. “I would say sub 35 or sub 40. Javier’s image continues to grow. For me, Javier Milei is going to be president, he will surely enter the ballot. It may be a surprise for many but for me it will not be a surprise because we are walking the street a lot and we have the feeling that something important is going to happen on October 22,” he said.
