Mauricio Macri marked the political week on Sunday by resigning his presidential candidacy and announcing his favoritism for the candidacy of Jorge Macri for the Buenos Aires Government Headquarters. This Wednesday, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta seemed to defy that mandate when he showed himself next to Martin Lousteau and other pre-candidates in a meeting where young people from Together for Change participated.
The militancy meeting was attended by about 40 leaders and members of the sub 40 group The generation. Among the pre-candidates who have already launched their application were the Ministers of Education and Health, Soledad Acuña and Fernán Quirós, who are still in the race despite Macri’s statements.
The only applicant who was not present was himself Jorge Macri, who this week received a resounding show of support from the former president after resigning from the presidential elections. The founder of the PRO aspires to impose his cousin as the only candidate from that space to the head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires.
Macri headed the Buenos Aires table of the PRO and seeks to establish himself as a referee in the internal
The former mayor of Vicente López and current Buenos Aires official was also in favor of carrying a single PRO list, like his cousin, which would mean lowering Quirós and Acuña. “We must find a single candidate, because dividing us is rare with respect to the people and it can give the UCR a chance. And I want the PRO to continue governing, which has been doing well so far, and to improve whatever is necessary,” Macri told Jorge Fontevecchia in Modo Fontevecchia by Radius Profile this Wednesday.
In addition, he recognized the support but also remarked that Larreta considers him among his candidates. The Buenos Aires president had already stated that he would turn to a PRO candidate, something shared with Mauricio Macri.
“We were with @horaciorlarreta and other leaders at the annual meeting of @LaGeneracionArg. We talked about the importance of a renewal in politics: people with ideas who are capable of providing a different perspective. Together for Change encourages new leaders”, was the tweet with which Lousteau showed himself together with Larreta.

Another of the other figures who also wants to compete to reach the Uspallata seat and was at the event was Ricardo López Murphy, who represents a liberal branch within the Cambiemita armed forces. The pre-candidates for governor Diego Santilli and Cristian Ritondo also participated in the event, as well as deputy Martín Tetaz and legislator Roberto García Moritán.
Lousteau reaffirmed his idea of being Head of Government
After Mauricio Macri stated that his cousin was the one who was best prepared to succeed Rodríguez Larreta, Lousteau reaffirmed his candidacy and sent a message to the former president during 2015 and 2019.
“Obviously I am still a candidate. The preference that the former president has, and I understand it because the PRO is his party and his cousin, it is good that it is so, but in the City, Together for Change governs, the PRO does not govern“said the senator in dialogue with Reynaldo Sietecase in The Vast Minority by radio with you.
Martín Lousteau: “In the Macri years, the City had a deficit”
Then he considered that Macri’s statements are part of an opinion “because of his party and family affinity”, but he clarified that both he and the current Head of Government like mixed formulas: “Now, many of us understand that it is a coalition , in fact Horacio (Rodríguez Larreta) says that he likes that the formulas are mixed, just like me”held.
“I would like to have a vice-chief or vice-chief of the PRO, because I like to govern with the best, not only with the radicals. Governing with an intimate group does not lead to the best solutions,” concluded Lousteau.
